KATE ALVA
I have a BA in History from the University of Washington, a MA in Organizational Leadership from Gonzaga, and I am certified as a Master Classical Teacher by The Circe Institute. Over the past ten years, I have worked as a third-grade teacher, a tutor, founded a Classical homeschool academy, developed courses, and trained parents.
I was born and raised in the PNW, never living more than 10 miles from I-5 for most of my life. Shortly after getting married in 2006, my husband’s career took us to SoCal, Texas, and even Perú! We are finally moving back to the place we have always held in our hearts as home. We return with a teenaged daughter and a pack of senior rescue dogs.
We began homeschooling when our daughter was in first grade and haven’t looked back.

I have a passion for supporting home school families, particularly with high school-aged students. This seems to be the age where parents often feel the most insecure about providing the best education for their children. I’m excited to share my leadership and teaching expertise in the coming years through the Saint Cassian Academy (Catholic), The Evergreen Atrium (Protestant), and Four Classical Pillars (parent and teacher support). I am a CiRCE certified Master Teacher who desires to further cultivate the renaissance of Classical Christian education and pursue truth, beauty, and goodness.
Fan of coffee, pens, The Office, watching Lord of the Rings every Christmas season, double spacing after periods, and the Oxford Comma. More about Classical Christian Education here.

“Kate is a gifted leader and teacher who is passionate about communicating truth. She is able to draw from a wide variety of interests and resources to present material that is engaging and worthwhile. During the time she spent with me as her mentor, I observed that Kate is the kind of teacher we all want: one who is a dedicated and humble learner. The classical Christian education community is blessed to count Kate among their number."
