Saint Cassian Academy is a classical Catholic high school community in Whatcom county designed to support homeschool families. Saint Cassian was founded in 2025 by Kate Alva, a CiRCE Institute Certified Master Teacher and homeschool mom.

Saint Cassian Academy offers a robust 32 week seminar-style humanities curriculum consisting of History, Poetics, and Philosophy, all with a conservative Catholic worldview. Here's the Scope and Sequence for all 4 cycles.

These classes will satisfy 1 English, 1 Social Studies, and 1 Elective credit for WA state high school graduation.

These classes are also meant to compliment the stand alone humanities classes I will be teaching at Eucatastrophe Coffee and Books on Tuesday mornings.

The flow and pace of the class is a bit more leisurely and conversational than a direct instruction class. We will be discussing our faith, ethics, current & past events, and our role as Catholic Christians in the world.

Courses for the 25-26 school year are as follows:
-
History: The beginning of Christian Civilization to the Enlightenment from a Catholic Perspective
-
Poetics: We’ll take a slow walk through Hell reading Dante’s Inferno and read Shakespeare aloud
-
Worldview: Catholic philosophy and Socratic dialogues
-
Writing: Comparison essay writing
