Introduction to Latin for Fun
(and possible World Dominion)

Salvete, Latin warriors!

Tired of declension drills and endless grammar gauntlets? Join us for an eight-week adventure into Lingua Latina per se Illustrata with the first three chapters of Hans Ørberg’s epic tale—no textbooks of doom, just a quirky plunge into Ancient Rome! Think of it as Latin with a twist: you’ll meet wacky characters, decode mini-mysteries, and actually read Latin like a sneaky Roman spy (no translation torture required). Perfect for survivors of Henley’s bootcamp who want to trade slog for swagger. Grab your toga and let’s roll—Roma awaits!

Cost: $40 per student*.

Ages: 12 and up

Materials: Spiral notebook or composition book, folder, set of 5 multicolored highlighters or pencils. Optional: Latin Dictionary.

That’s it for the Summer class.  All other supplies will be provided.

Dies: Tuesdays, May 13 - July 8 (No class 7/1)

Tempus: 11:00 - Noon

Locus: Eucatastrophe Coffee and Used Books, 515 Front Street, Lynden

*If you enroll in the year-long (32 weeks) Lingua Latin class beginning September 2025, $30 will be credited to the enrollment cost.

Lost Tools of Writing Refresher for Classical Conversations Families

CC Challenge parents:

Is your student wrestling with writing like Tom Sawyer dodging a whitewash chore? Whether they’re a younger scribe still piecing together the Lost Tools of Writing (LTW) puzzle, or a seasoned wordsmith coasting along, letting their prose get as dull as a fence post, I’ve got the fix for you!

Join me—a Circe-certified Master Classical Teacher—for an 8-week LTW Summer Intensive that’ll have your student crafting essays sharper than Tom’s wit. We’ll dive into Mark Twain’s Tom Sawyer—a rollicking, parent-approved summer read—and whip up two essays while brushing up on the essentials: Invention (brainstorming), Arrangement (structuring like a pro), and Elocution (making words sing).

If you’re a CC Challenge family, dust off your Lost Tools of Writing I—it’s all you’ll need from your shelf. I’ll supply the rest, including the novel, so no hunting for treasures required!

Open to all Challenge levels, even those just stepping into the Ch. A adventure. Let’s make writing a summer escapade they won’t want to trade away!

Dates: Tuesdays, May 13 - July 8 (No class 7/1)

Time: 9:15 - 10:45

Place: Eucatastrophe Coffee and Used Books

Cost: $80 first child, $60 subsequent children from the same family.

Registration is limited to 12. I may be able to conduct a second class in July/August if there’s demand.
